My Professional Path and Choice of Psychotherapy Method

A woman sits by the sea and looks towards the waves.

I have a small dream: to become a child psychoanalyst. There are no such schools in Ukraine, but I speak French quite well.

Over time, after I began my training, the psychoanalytic direction started to seem a little dull. I wanted a more dynamic process, so I additionally trained as a CBT counsellor. I still did not manage to fall in love with this method; I missed depth.

Although I work in the psychodynamic Guided Affective Imagery approach — it is not classical psychoanalysis — it does offer that depth. In 2025, I completed training in perinatal psychotherapy using this method. In 2026, I will receive a specialisation in work with children and adolescents. These are separate, advanced courses in addition to the main four-to-five-year psychotherapy training programme.

I have supported women during childbirth. This is an experience separate from therapy, and it is deeply meaningful to me, although I no longer work as a doula.

Psychotherapy offers many directions for development and learning. I hope the time for child psychoanalysis will come as well.
