A psychotherapist does not give advice. They do not know or tell you how to live “correctly”, and they certainly do not tell you that you are living incorrectly.
Together with you, a psychotherapist explores how your world is organised. They help you find your own answers and discover what works specifically for you.
A psychotherapist offers support and helps you reconnect with your own capacity and strength. Often a client already has answers and understands what they want, but does not have enough energy to act on that understanding. Psychotherapy can become a source of support while that capacity is restored.
We do not know what is right for another person. It is different for everyone, and our experience cannot become the client’s experience. Sometimes being heard and accepted is already far more meaningful than receiving information.
