Crisis, loss and life during war

When loss, change, or prolonged stress makes it hard to feel grounded again

After loss, relocation, a sudden change in life or prolonged waiting, it can be difficult to rely on what once helped. The work does not require you to remain strong all the time or find new meaning quickly.

You may recognise some of these experiences

  • after a particular event, familiar ways of coping no longer feel supportive;
  • prolonged tension leaves little energy for everyday life;
  • after loss or relocation, it is difficult to feel belonging and grounding;
  • waiting for someone close who is at the front brings different and conflicting feelings;
  • news and other people’s stories are exhausting and increase inner tension;
  • you expect yourself to remain composed and strong at all times.

What can be explored in therapy

  • a crisis following a specific event or major change;
  • the experience of loss and grief;
  • relocation and the loss of a familiar way of life;
  • prolonged stress and waiting for someone close who is at the front;
  • mixed feelings, guilt, anger or powerlessness;
  • secondary traumatisation and the need to restore inner sources of support.

What the first session is like

The first meeting is a chance to get acquainted, outline the current situation and identify a manageable pace for the work.

  1. you decide which details you are ready to discuss;
  2. you do not need to recount an event in detail to explain your concern;
  3. we discuss current needs, boundaries and the format of support;
  4. if other or urgent help is needed, the limits of competence are discussed openly.

How I work with this theme

Psychodynamic understanding can help us notice how loss and change affect relationships, identity and inner sources of support. CBT tools may support an exploration of links between thoughts, feelings, bodily responses and actions. Katathym Imaginative Psychotherapy and creative elements are used only with consent and at a manageable pace.

  • respect for the pace of grief and adaptation;
  • room for mixed feelings without pressure to change them quickly;
  • attention to what can provide realistic support now;
  • no universal advice, pressure or promises of a quick result.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Must I describe a traumatic event in detail?

No. You decide what and how much you are ready to discuss. A detailed account is not a condition of the first session.

Can I seek support for prolonged stress without one specific event?

Yes. Prolonged strain, waiting and loss of familiar sources of support can also become themes of the work.

Is Telegram an emergency support channel?

No. Telegram is used for first and practical contact and is not monitored around the clock.

Can sessions take place online?

Yes. Individual work is available online or in person in Odesa; the format is agreed in advance.

Can it be too early or too late to seek support after loss or crisis?

There is no single “right” time. You can reach out when support feels needed and taking that step feels possible for you.

What if I cannot cry or speak about my feelings?

There is no correct reaction that you need to display in a session. We can begin with changes in daily life, how you are feeling physically, or simply what you can put into words right now.

Will you push me to “let go” and move on?

No. The purpose is not to speed up grief. We can look with care for grounding and a way of living with what happened, at a pace you can manage.

You do not have to keep coping alone all the time
